Candle Fragrance Oils Description

Fragrance Oils for Candle Manufacturing

Candle fragrance oils are concentrated scent blends incorporated into wax during scented candle production. Gar Aromas® supplies fragrance oils to candle manufacturers, home fragrance brands and private label businesses, with sample selection and custom development based on the intended candle system.

Share your wax brand and grade, candle format, wick system, fragrance loading and target scent profile so that fragrance selection starts with your actual production requirements.

Evaluate Cold Throw, Hot Throw and Wax Performance

Cold throw describes the scent of an unlit candle. Hot throw describes the fragrance experienced while the candle burns. Both should be assessed in finished prototypes, alongside wax appearance and burn performance.

Wax composition, fragrance loading, preparation method, curing conditions, wick selection and container design can influence the result. A strong smell in the fragrance bottle does not establish how the finished candle will perform.

Candle Fragrance Oils Applications

Candle fragrance selection should reflect the wax grade, product format and intended use. The following applications require evaluation in finished prototypes before production approval.

Application Evaluation Focus
Soy Wax and Coconut Wax Blend Container Candles Assess fragrance incorporation, appearance after curing, cold throw, hot throw and the selected wick system.
Paraffin and Blended-Wax Container Candles Evaluate fragrance retention, color, scent release and burn performance in the intended vessel.
Pillar and Moulded Scented Candles Check fragrance compatibility with the chosen pillar wax, finished appearance, shape retention and burning behavior.
Wax Melts Evaluate appearance, fragrance retention and scent release in the intended warmer under its recommended operating conditions.

These applications can support signature home fragrance collections, gift candles, seasonal ranges and private label projects.

If you are developing the same scent direction across candles and other home fragrance formats, provide a separate brief for each application so that the fragrance can be evaluated in the relevant system.

Candle Fragrance Oils FAQ

How do I choose fragrance oils for soy, coconut or paraffin candles?
Start with the specific wax brand and grade, candle format, wick and container. Evaluate fragrance samples in finished prototypes for appearance, cold throw, hot throw and burn performance. Results obtained in one wax blend or candle format should be verified again when the formulation or components change.
What fragrance loading should I use in my candles?
Choose a starting loading within the wax supplier's recommendations and the applicable limits for the selected fragrance and intended use. Compare prototypes at appropriate loadings and complete burn testing. Higher fragrance loading does not automatically improve hot throw and may affect wax stability or burning behavior.
What is the difference between cold throw and hot throw?
Cold throw is the scent experienced from an unlit candle. Hot throw is the fragrance experienced while the candle burns. Evaluate them separately under consistent conditions, as an attractive cold scent does not establish the candle's hot throw. Final results depend on the complete wax, fragrance, wick and container system.
Can these fragrance oils be used in gel candles?
Gel candle projects require a separate review of the gel supplier's fragrance requirements. Provide the gel brand and grade before requesting samples. Fragrance suitability, permitted loading, gel compatibility and finished-candle burn performance must be confirmed for that specific system before production approval.
Can you develop a custom fragrance for our candle brand?
Yes. Gar Aromas® supports custom scent development and benchmark matching for candle brands and private label projects. Share your scent brief, target market, wax system, cost requirements and any reference sample. The selected fragrance should then be evaluated in your finished candle before bulk ordering.
What are your MOQ, sample options and available documents?
Our standard MOQ is 50 kg per fragrance, with custom project requirements reviewed individually. Samples are supplied in 30 mL glass bottles, and standard bulk packing is 25 kg drums. SDS, COA, allergen information and an applicable IFRA Certificate of Conformity for the selected fragrance and intended use are available on request.

Evaluate Candle Fragrance Oils Before Bulk Ordering

Evaluate samples in candles made with your intended production materials. Keep a record of the fragrance code, wax grade, loading, wick, container, preparation method and curing conditions.

  1. Prepare comparable prototypes. Keep the test conditions consistent and change one variable at a time when comparing formulations.
  2. Check appearance and cold throw. After the appropriate curing period, assess scent character, intensity, discoloration and visible oil separation or sweating.
  3. Complete finished-candle burn testing. Follow an appropriate supervised testing protocol throughout the candle’s intended use life. Record flame behavior, melt pool development, soot and container performance.
  4. Assess hot throw under controlled conditions. Once burn performance is established, evaluate scent character and intensity without interference from other burning fragrances. Use the results to approve the final fragrance and candle formula before bulk ordering.
